Stargell's influence on Chipper Jones: [1], [2], [3] 75.164.246.129 (talk) 02:01, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

His middle name is listed here as "Dornell" but other sources such as the Baseball Hall of Fame have "Dornel." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:985:4:84F9:E16A:6ED:C614:B367 (talk) 02:41, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GLARING OMMISSIONS!!! Comment

[edit]

What about Stargell's raising money for Sickle Cell Anemia throughout his entire career???

In the 1980′s, with the financial struggle under control, the Society began to make a concerted effort to shape and sharpen the Society’s public image. Because as far as the public was concerned, the Sickle Cell Society was merely an extension of the Willie Stargell Foundation—a separate Pittsburgh sickle cell disease organization helmed by the Hall of Fame baseball player. http://newpittsburghcourieronline.com/2013/09/21/sickle-cell-society-inc-murray-irvis-genetic-disease-center-a-history-of-care/ http://old.post-gazette.com/obituaries/20010410stargell2.asp

The twelve foot statue of him outside PNC park??? http://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/20010408stargell2.asp

The only man to hit two home runs that landed outside Dodgers Stadium---http://www.daveyball.com/stargell.htm User:JCHeverly 19:55, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The two homers out of Dodger Stadium are mentioned, with a note that only two other HR have been hit out of there. The PNC statue is mentioned, though it doesn't say it's twelve feet tall. If you have a source to that, that would be good to include. Feel free to incorporate his work with sickle cell into the article. Even if you aren't good at spelling, grammar or formatting, someone will come along and clean up your contribution. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 02:27, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • That condescending and inaccurate retort was unnecessary. Did add the info. But the provelt is not working.
I apologize for coming across as condescending. Often people cite a lack of familiarity with Wikipedia formatting as a reason why they leave a note on a talk page rather than editing the article itself. I meant nothing condescending and always appreciate anyone correcting me on inaccuracies. We're trying to build a factual and comprehensive encyclopedia. • No problem there at all. I thought as much, but that led me to assume that it was an issue of your confidence in your writing. Here's what caught me off guard the most: I've put a lot of work into expanding some pretty short Hall of Fame entries like this one, then I find a talk page comment that says "glaring" and uses all caps and multiple exclamation marks. Then I find out that by glaring we mean the height of a statue and some off-the-field fundraising details. I was pretty frustrated at that point and I can see now how my reply came off poorly. One year contracts

[edit]

I believe that Stargell only had one year contracts that got renewed year after year. I hope that someone can locate stories in the Pgh newspapers or The Sporting News or other sources. From Stargell's side, I think he might have said that he preferred one year contracts because it keeps him from getting lazy and that he always has to prove himself. Also on Stargell's side was his huge popularity in Pgh. Management had to treat him with the respect that the fans thought he deserved. It would have been very hard to cut Stargell from the roster. Even in his last years, with diminished playing time and stats, he got his one year contracts. AdderUser (talk) 05:11, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Add photo of Willie’s statute

[edit]

A photo of Willie's statute at PNC Park should be added. 2601:580:C000:E2C0:6C1D:DAD0:5588:B3C1 (talk) 12:44, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
